The Chronicle, May 10, 2019, reports that the Asterion Australia cannabis growing and processing facility to be built on the Darling Downs should be under construction by the end of the year.

Dr Paget Hargreaves, the president and director of Asterion Australia, has advised that a development application should be lodged within a month, and pending Government approval they hope that construction will begin this year.

The planned 40 hectare facility being built close to Toowoomba near the Wellcamp Business Park will be made up of four 10 hectare, climate and humidity controlled, grow houses. The facility will grow plants from seedlings, taking them right through through to maturity and processing into cannabis oils (CBD oil).

The new Wellcamp Airport with easy access to export markets in Asia, the Inland Rail proposal and all the resources in this area were all deciding factors in selecting the facilities location.

Once fully built and operational there is an expectation the facility will employ up to 1200 people.
